H - TRAK SYSTEM

Modular Organization Hub

H TRAK is a fully module organization unit that allow users to to arrange and develop based on their individual unique lifestyles in small or limited living spaces.

This product attempts to explore the idea of behavioral alignment in furniture design and uses the patterns of the most common activities around the household to combine functionality and activities into one single hub rather then multiple furniture pieces.

Materials : Plywood, Plastic, Sheet Metal

Royal College of Art, London

The average living space in urban cities is around 45 - 75 square meter.

The average furnishings is around 15 pieces for one bed one bath

Taking up Space

The average person will spent anywhere between $3000 - $6000 to furnish their empty apartment. Most pieces of furniture are designed with one function in mind, making it necessary to buy additional furnishings to accommodate other functions.

Aesthetics vs Functionality

Most pieces of furniture lean towards human based design instead of activity based design. There are benefits to both approaches, however in small environments, space is a luxury that can only be afforded by maximizing everything.

Ability to customize

While furniture has become standardized since the industrial revolution (i.e chair, sofa, table), user lifestyles and needs has evolved in a living space compared to 50 years ago. It has come much more complex and intricate that makes it harder for a standard design to fit all. Being able to customize gives user a control of what they need instead of what they are given.

Goal:

Develop a piece of furniture system to extend more space

to one or more function/activity that fit the users unique need and use.

Assembly Variations

The system uses a 3D pegboard inspired configuration that allows the user to arrange the body freely.

The main body of the system composes of two T shaped columns joined together by wooden beams that act as the foundation for the modules.

Combined Functionality concept

Scenarios of users tailoring the H Trak to very specific functionality around a standard living space.
